Captivating Stories: A Woman Who Inspires Positive Change

2 min read

“Invest in women, accelerate progress.” That’s the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), which returns on Friday. It’s in response to a growing body of evidence that shows female empowerment is a key solution to global issues, not least climate change.

In fact, one study found that increasing female representation in national governments leads to more stringent climate policies, resulting in lower emissions. Enfranchising women in natural resource management is also associated with better conservation outcomes.

Yet efforts to address gender inequality are stalling, according to the 2023 Global Gender Gap report, which benchmarks the state of gender parity across four key dimensions (economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and political empowerment). It estimates that at the current rate of progress, it will take the world 131 years to achieve full parity between men and women.

It adds salience to the achievements of female leaders, whether on the global stage, in the community or at home. And it begs the question: which trailblazing women have inspired you? Who are the women making the world a better place to live for you? We want to know for an article to be published on International Women’s Day. Fill out the form below to take part.
