Rohit Sharma lauded Team India’s efforts as they won 10 matches in a row on road to the final but praised Australia as they were “too good” in the final.

Another ICC event final and another loss. While India Cricket Team fight with the perception of shrugging off the chokers’ tag, Rohit Sharma was heartbroken. The India captain hailed the team’s performance throughout the tournament but admitted that Australia were too good on the day. Australia beat India by 6 wickets to lift sixth World Cup 2023 title in Ahmedabad in front of 130,000 people.

“The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn’t supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.

With just 240 on board, India began fightback with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami reducing Australians to 47/3. But Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58) took the game away with a 192-run stand.

“When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne for putting us out of the game, but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don’t want to give that as an excuse. We didn’t put enough runs on the board. Credit to those two guys in the middle for putting up an outstanding partnership,” Rohit Sharma added.
