Is Prince Shubman Gill on the Verge of Breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s World Cup Final Record?

2 min read

In the final match of the World Cup, Shubman Gill has the opportunity to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s unique record if he scores 31 runs against Australia. Gill has already amassed 1580 runs in 2023, and this upcoming match could see him surpassing Sachin for the most runs amassed in a calendar year before turning 25. Sachin Tendulkar had scored 1611 runs in 1996, and he was also the highest run-getter in that year’s World Cup.

Even after all these years, Sachin still holds the record for the most runs in a calendar year with 1611 runs. One of the main reasons for this was Sachin’s outstanding performance in the World Cup, where he scored 523 runs with an astonishing average of 87.17 in just seven matches. Despite his brilliant performance, team India went on to lose the final match against Sri Lanka.

In the semi-final match against New Zealand, Gill looked in excellent touch but missed out on a century due to cramps. However, he will be aiming to replicate his performance in the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium as India seeks to end their 10-year drought of winning an ICC trophy.
