Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami have been named as contenders for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Player of the Tournament award. These four Indian players are among the nine nominees for this prestigious title. The contenders for the award were initially not visible on the ICC website or social media channels, but India TV has obtained the list.

Virat Kohli has played a significant role in stabilizing India’s strong batting lineup and is currently in exceptional form. He has shown his expertise in chasing and has scored important runs against teams like Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Notably, his performances have been crucial in matches where India batted first.

Rohit Sharma has been instrumental in providing explosive starts for the Indian team in almost every match of the tournament. Despite scoring only one century, his aggressive batting has set the stage for other batters to achieve big totals. Sharma has accumulated 550 runs in 10 matches at an impressive average of 55.00 and a striking rate of 124.15.

Mohammed Shami has emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming an impressive tally of 23 wickets in six matches. Noteworthy performances include a five-wicket haul against New Zealand, four-wicket hauls against England and Sri Lanka, and a record-breaking 7-wicket haul in the semi-final against New Zealand.

Jasprit Bumrah has been a linchpin of the Indian bowling attack alongside Shami. The Indian pacer has clinched 18 wickets in 10 innings, boasting a stellar bowling average, a remarkable strike rate, and an impressive economy.

Additionally, the list of nominees includes Glenn Maxwell, Rachin Ravindra, Adam Zampa, Quinton de Kock, and Daryl Mitchell. These players have also showcased exceptional performances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and are vying for the title of Player of the Tournament.
