Despite having a solid record in T20Is, former India skipper might be out of the race for T20 World Cup 2024. Ever since the World Cup 2023 got over, the talks of Virat Kohli not being a certainty for the T20 World Cup 2024, have only grown louder. While there are no confirmed reports about the same as yet, this has been a constant topic of discussion. In a meeting between all the stakeholders, skipper Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar, and other board officials — a roadmap seems to have been chalked out for the T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.
As per a report in Dainik Jagran, while Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah are set to be in the team for the tournament despite missing the Australia and South Africa series’, Kohli might miss out. Despite having a solid record in T20I and the IPL, the board might just be looking at an alternate choice in the middle-order.

Not Virat Kohli, But Ishan Kishan Preferred Choice for T20 World Cup 2024

The Jagran report further suggests that a BCCI official told the publication, that Ishan Kishan could be picked in the middle-order since they are looking for a player who can attack right from the start. The official also said that performances of the IPL 2024 will also be considered for Kohli, but the area he might miss out is, he opens for his franchise RCB. Whereas, the opening slots look all but gone. The official also added that Kohli will be consulted about his future before any decision is made.
