Earlier in the BAN vs NZ 1st Test, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to have a bat first. openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan gave a decent start to the home side. However, Ajaz Patel got the better of Hasan with Bangladesh losing the first wicket on 39 runs.
After the fall of Zakir Hasan, Mahmud Hasan Joy (86 off 166 balls) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (37 off 35 balls) stitched a decent 50+ run partnership to take the home side near the 100-run mark. The partnership was backed with another good one between Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque (37 off 78 balls) to help reach Bangladesh near the 200 runs.
Several other batters including Mushfiqur Rahim (12 off 22 balls), Shahadat Hossain (24 off 54 balls), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (20 off 30 balls) and Nurul Hasan (29 off 28 balls) got starts. However, none of the Bangladeshi batters managed to convert their innings to a big knock. As a result, Bangladesh were bowled out for 310 runs in their first innings.
In reply, skipper Kane Williamson stroked a century in their first innings of the NZ vs BAN 1st Test. Apart from him, Daryl Mitchell (41 off 54 balls) and Glenn Phillips (42 off 62 balls) were the notable contributors for the Blackcaps. As a result, the visitors gained a lead of seven runs after the first innings. Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with four wickets to his name.
Speaking about Bangladesh second innings in BAN vs NZ match, Shanto smashed a century. On the other hand, fifties from Miraz, and Rahim helped the home team breach the 300-run mark once again. As a result, New Zealand were set a target of 332 runs in the fourth innings.
