Watch Iran make an incredible comeback against the defending champions Brazil in the FIFA U17 World Cup 2023.

Brazil U17 vs Iran U17: After handing Germany a shocking 4-0 loss in the 2017 edition of the FIFA U17 World Cup, giant slayer Iran made reigning champions Brazil their most recent victims. Iran came out on top from two goals behind to defeat reigning Brazil 3-2 in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Entering the WC after defeating Yemen, the Middle Eastern side had little to no chance of surviving against the reigning champions. However, goals by Kasra Taheri and Esmaeil Gholizadeh in the second half altered everything.

After taking a commanding lead in the first half, the defending champions appeared to be cruising. Rayan’s exquisite touch gave the Brazilian team the lead in the 28th minute. While a swarm of players awaited Luca Camilo’s corner delivery, he instead sent a low pass towards Lorran. He ducked to let the ball fall to Rayan, who curled a beautiful left-foot strike home.

Brazil extended their lead just before the halftime break. Rayan fired at goal from ten yards out, and the ball cannoned off Abolfazl Zamani and into the net. Iran came out in the second half with newfound vigour and purpose, far from dejected.

Iran looked promising in making a comeback. They looked dangerous whenever they got into the final third. Their first chance came in the 51st minute when Yaghoob Barajeh’s shot deflected in off Da Mata.

On 69 minutes, half-time replacement Kasra Taheri nutmegged Brazil goalkeeper Phillipe Gabriel with a fizzing low shot. After a quick breakaway, Esmaeil Gholizadeh put the finishing touches on an incredible turnaround.

Brazil increased its push in the quest for an equaliser, but it was in vain. Iran’s players and staff erupted in wild celebrations after the final whistle.Iran will go up against  * England and New Caledonia, respectively on Tuesday and Friday.
