Kane Williamson Joins Exclusive Club of Former Indian Cricket Legends with Four Consecutive Test Hundreds

During the New Zealand vs Bangladesh Test match, Kane Williamson got to his 29th ton, and made a few records in the process.

There was hardly any doubt ever, that Kane Williamson was one of the best batsmen in the longest format, the modern-day game has seen. If at all there was any, the Kiwi legend has thwarted that with three tons in as many innings, and four tons in four Tests. Williamson achieved the feat during the first Test against Bangladesh on Wednesday, in Sylhet.

Williamson’s 29th Test ton came on the second day of the match but was dismissed for 104 from 205 balls soon after. Nonetheless, the former Kiwi skipper did his job once again. And in doing so, he joined the elite company of some legendary batsmen, including some Indians.

Most Tons in Consecutive Test Innings

Williamson now has consecutive hundreds against Sri Lanka at Christchurch (121), against Sri Lanka in Wellington (215), and now versus Bangladesh (104). He has joined the likes of Marnus Labuschagne, Shan Masood, Virat Kohli, Adam Voges, and Misbah-ul-Haq. In the same list, there is Sunil Gavaskar and Don Bradman as well. In a nutshell, 44 players have achieved this feat. For four tons in four innings, only Dravid, A Melville, and JHW Fingleton have reached there. Everton Weekes holds the overall record with five innings and five centuries.

Player Innings Tons
Everton Weekes 5 5
Rahul Dravid 4 4
Alan Melville 4 4
Jack Fingleton 4 4
Kane Williamson 3 3

That’s not it. Williamson joined the elite company for the players with the most tons in most consecutive Tests as well. As many as 16 players hold the same record as him, but only four have bettered his feat. Legends of the game like Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Matthew Hayden, all have scored four in four. The only Indian to better that achievement is Gautam Gambhir with five in five. The overall record belongs to Bradman again, with six in six.

Player Tests Tons
Donald Bradman 6 6
Jacques Kallis 5 5
Mohammad Yousuf 5 5
Gautam Gambhir 5 5
Kane Williamson 4 4
