Rahul Dravid to Lead Indian Cricket Team until T20 World Cup 2024: BCCI Offers Contract Extension

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has offered Team India head coach Rahul Dravid a contract extension till the T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, Dravid, who took over the coaching reins from Ravi Shastri in November 2021, had a contract till the ODI World Cup 2023.

According to Indian Express, the BCCI took the decision of offering Dravid an extension after Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra turned down the offer to take over the role in the shortest format.

Dravid had a mixed journey in his tenure as the head coach, leading India to series Asia Cup win, but also suffering defeats T20 World Cup 2022 and World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, Dravid, has not yet given his nod to the BCCI’s offer, as he is reportedly weighing his options for the future. The former India captain is also in demand from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, as one of the new teams, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has approached him for a mentor role in IPL 2024.

Meanwhile, Laxman, who took over as the NCA chief from Dravid in December 2021, is keen to continue in his role and work with the future of Indian cricket. However, if Dravid declines the contract extension, the board is likely to persuade Laxman to take over the reins.

Laxman is currently in charge of the ongoing five-match series against Australia.
