Riyan Parag has been in exceptional form in domestic cricket this season. However, the young all-rounder has failed to perform for Rajasthan Royals in IPL so far.
Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) player Riyan Parag’s father, Das Parag has made a special request to the IPL franchise ahead of IPL 2024. Mr. Parag has suggested that the RR franchise should play the young batter at number 4 position. In an interview with CricketNext, Das Parag emphasized the fact that the T20 tournament is totally different from other domestic tournaments and playing his son at a certain batting position will help the team’s cause.
“In domestic, he is consistently playing at number 4 which is giving him enough time to get into the groove and plan the innings in his way. 100% he should bat at number 4″, Das Parag said in a chat with CricketNext.
Notably, Riyan Parag has been in sensational form in the domestic circuit. The right-handed batter amassed 552 runs in just 9 matches in the recently concluded Syed Mushaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Before that, Parag also scored 350 runs in Deodhar Trophy. Thanks to his recent blitz with the bat, the young batter might receive a maiden call-up to the Indian side for the T20 series against Australia, starting at the end of this month.
He needs some time to settle: Riyan Parag’s father
Mr. Parag further added that his son needs some time to settle at the crease and can be a match-winner for his team after getting his eye in.
“He is a kind of player who needs a bit of time to settle in. Once he gets his eye in, he can take the match deep and win it for his side. He can play according to the situation”, Riyan’s father further added.

“Last year, he played a couple of games at number 4 (in IPL) but wasn’t able to do well. Eventually, his batting position began to fluctuate. As I said a fixed batting position gives a player a good idea about planning his innings and same is the case with Riyan,” said Das Parag.
Despite being given ample chances by Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag has not lived upto the expectations so far. Speaking about Riyan Parag numbers in IPL, the 22-year-old has played 54 matches and scored 600 runs at an average of 16.22. He plays at a strike-rate of 123.97 and has also scalped four wickets with the ball.
In IPL 2023, Riyan managed to score just 78 runs in seven outings with his highest score being 20.
