Toto Wolff Criticizes Michael Masi as F1 Race Director Ahead of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Mercedes and Ferrari are separated by just 4 points going into the Abu Dhabi GP. Toto Wolff took this opportunity to fire some shots at sacked former race director, Michael Masi.

Ferrari showed a lot of pace at the Las Vegas GP. Mercedes showed a lot of pace as well, but an unlucky race left them with little to show for. As a result, Ferrari took 16 points out of their lead, leaving just 4 points between the two teams for 2nd place in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship going into the Abu Dhabi GP. Toto Wolff didn’t mince words and fired shots at Michael Masi, remembering the saga in the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP.

As reported by Crash, Toto Wolff said, “I think we’re going there pretty much equal on points and we have a proper race director, so that should be fine.”

Toto Wolff took a dig at former race director, Michael Masi, while commenting on Ferrari vs Mercedes showdown. In 2021, in a race that decided the title, Michael Masi took the Formula 1 rulebook in his own hands and made some questionable calls.

This directly led to Max Verstappen becoming a World Champion, and Lewis Hamilton losing out. Afterwards, in an investigation conducted by the FIA, they acknowledged the “human error” and removed Masi from his position.

Just 4 Points

Ferrari arguably had more pace than Red Bull at the Las Vegas GP. However, a penalty for Carlos Sainz and an ill-timed safety car for Charles Leclerc caught them out.

While not as quick as Ferrari, Mercedes had the pace to fight for the podium. But an incident-filled race for both their drivers left Toto Wolff wondering would could have been.
