India’s Junior World Boxing Championships Team Advances 8 Fighters to Semifinals

Seven junior girls from India compete in the Junior Boxing World Championships. Out of them, six boxers have qualified for the quarterfinal.

India’s young boxers shined in the quarterfinal of the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships 2023. As many as eight pugilists from the country assured medals in the tournament as they punched their way into the semifinal on Thursday.

Seven junior girls from India compete in the tournament. Out of them, six boxers have qualified for the quarterfinal. Pari (50kg) & Nidhi (66kg), won their quarterfinal bouts with identical scoreline of 5-0.

Pari defeated Romania’s Muller Micaela. While, Nidhi defeated Chinese Taipei’s Kao Chun Ai. It is to be noted that both the boxers also won gold medals in the Asian Junior Boxing Championships this year.

Other Indian girls to reach the semis were Payal in 48kg category and Neha Lunthi in 46 kg category. Payal defeated Ireland’s Doherty Lauren 5-0. Neha meanwhile defeated Belarusian Hizouskaya Anhelina with a 4-1 split verdict.

Prachi in the 54kg category came from behind and secured a 3-2 win against Kazakhstan’s Seiitkhankyzyz Panar. Amisha, also in the 54 kg category sealed spot in the semis with a unanimous decision.

Hardik Panwar and Jatin secure semifinal spots in Boys section

In the boys section, Asian Championship gold medallists Hardik Panwar and Jatin made it to the semifinal. Competing in the 80kg category, Hardik Panwar dominated against South Korea’s Park Damhyeon and clinched a win on unanimous decision.

In the 54 kg category, Jatin defeated Georgia’s Mushkudiani Davic with a unanimous decison and progressed to the next stage. Brijesh Tamta (46kg) and Divasj Katare (50kg) suffered defeats in the quarterfinal.
