As many as six Indian players have been named in the ICC team of the tournament for the 2023 World Cup (WC). Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been picked as the skipper for the team of the tournament. Player of the Tournament, Virat Kohli and tournament’s top wicket-taker Mohammed Shami were named in the XI along with wicketkeeper KL Rahul and pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Eight of the 11 players in the elite team played in the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma has been placed at the opening slot alongside South Africa’s senior batter Quinton de Kock. Virat Kohli finds himself at the number 3 position, while New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell secured the number 4 slot.
At the number 5 position, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul slotted in. Rahul also had a good run in World Cup as he finished with 597 runs at 54.27, his strike rate of 125.95.
Amongst the all-rounders, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and Ravindra Jadeja have been named. To note, Maxwell slammed the fastest World Cup century in just 40 balls against the Netherlands. Apart from that, Maxi went on to play the innings of his life against Afghanistan where he scored a double hundred. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja claimed 16 wickets in the World Cup with his economy rate being 4.26.
In the bowling department, Indian pacers Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madhushanka found the place as pacers. While Shami finished as the leading wicket-taker in World Cup with 24 wickets, Bumrah got 20 wickets to his name. Australian spinner Adam Zampa also finds his place in team of the tournament after having 23 scalps in the competition.
Meanwhile, South African pacer Gerald Coetzee is the 12th man of the team. He got 20 wickets in the World Cup.
